For nearly 50 years, Ringseis Designs has built lasting relationships with artists, collectors, galleries, institutions, and distinguished clients through an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and preservation. Over the years, Jim Ringseis collaborated with many of the Bay Area’s leading interior designers, creating custom framing that enhanced artwork featured in prestigious designer showcases, including the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. His work was also trusted by organizations, collectors, and artists throughout the region.

Among the many meaningful relationships developed over the years was the opportunity to work with George Lucas and Lucasfilm. For decades, Jim Ringseis was entrusted with framing artwork, collections, and installations for Lucasfilm, including significant projects connected

​

with the company’s facilities. This relationship was built on trust, attention to detail, and a shared appreciation for preserving important artwork.​

​Jim’s craftsmanship extended far beyond movie posters and memorabilia. He was also entrusted with many important works from George Lucas’s personal art collection, including original artwork by some of America’s most celebrated

illustrators, including Norman Rockwell and other renowned artists.

​

Jim understood that exceptional framing does more than protect artwork—it completes the presentation. A

thoughtfully designed frame creates a visual pathway, guiding the viewer’s eye into the artwork while enhancing its

​

beauty without competing for attention. Jim had a rare gift for selecting designs that complemented, elevated, and honored every piece he framed.

 

​​​​​​Many of the works Jim designed and framed for George Lucas will continue their journey as part of the George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, opening in 2026. This lasting connection reflects Jim’s dedication to craftsmanship, preservation, and the art of presentation.​

 

Jim believed every piece of artwork deserved the same level of care—whether it was a family photograph, a treasured watercolor, a historic illustration, or a significant collection piece. His approach combined traditional craftsmanshipwith museum-quality preservation techniques, earning the trust of collectors, artists, galleries, and institutions.​​​​

the documentary 

Naples Yellow,

which premiered

at the 2013 Mill Valley Film Festival. The film follows Jim and two other artists who share a deep love for what they do and the dedication behind their creative work. Director Tyler Norwood first met Jim after his wife brought artwork to Ringseis Designs for framing. Impressed by Jim’s craftsmanship, enthusiasm, and

 

genuine love for his work, she shared her experience with her husband, inspiring him to tell Jim’s story.

 

Beyond the artwork he framed, Jim’s greatest legacy was the many relationships he built throughout his life. His dedication to his craft, strong work ethic, storytelling, humor, and genuine kindness touched the lives of countless clients, artists, designers, and friends.

 

Jim had a rare ability to connect with people, making each person feel valued and every project feel meaningful.

For Jim, framing was never just about the finished piece—it was about the

story behind the artwork and the relationship created along the way.

Today, Ringseis Designs continues Jim’s tradition of creating custom framing that honors the artwork, the artist, and the story behind every piece.
